This turned out to be an interesting exercise. I knew I had never been in the deep south (No reason. Just never happened). But I thought I had most everywhere else in the continental US. I was surprised to realize that even though I had lived in Massachusetts for several years I can't remember ever visiting Vermont. Likewise I've been all over Ohio and Illinois (I grew up in Michigan) and to Memphis a couple of time on business but never managed to visit Kentucky.

    Accents
    From [info]dawnd
    </form>
What American accent do you have?
    Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Northern. Whether you have the world famous Inland North accent of the Great Lakes area, or the radio-friendly sound of upstate NY and western New England, your accent is what used to set the standard for American English pronunciation (not much anymore now that the Inland North sounds like it does).

Midland. The Midland (please don't confuse with "Midwest") itself is the neutral zone between the North and South. But just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from there. Since it is considered a neutral, default, "non-regional" accent you could easily be from someplace without its own accent, like Florida, or a big city in the South like Dallas, Houston, or Atlanta.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

This result is both logical and a bit strange. I am from Michigan but when I was growing up there people often thought I had an accent. Even now, people who try to guess where I'm from by my accent don't usually guess the Great Lakes area.

    The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

    Personality
You are more logical than emotional, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more introverted than extroverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurous (90%), romantic (86%), intellectual (73%), horny (61%).

    Stereotypes
    Old Geezer100%
    College Student88%
    Punk Rock60%

    Life Experience
    Sex58%
    Substances68%
    Travel35%

    Politics
Your political views would best be described as Liberal, whom you agree with around 59% of the time.
      Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Middle Class. You make more than 0% of those who have taken this test, and 31% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated R.
By the way, your hottness rank is 48%, hotter than 69% of other test takers.

    TAKE THE TEST
    brought to you by thatsurveysite

I would agree with about half of the results. They are definitely skewed by the either/or bias of the quiz maker.

A quiz I did'n get from one of my friends

My score on The Shakespeare Character Test:

    Nick Bottom
(You scored 18 evilness, 36 romance, 18 tragic, and 45 comic!)

Nick Bottom is an Athenian weaver and acts the part of Pyramus in a play in "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Bottom loves the sound of his own voice and believes that he is the best actor, even though he often confuses words. Through magic, he is given an ass's head and becomes the object of affection of Titania through a love spell.

    You know the Bible 82%!

Wow! You are truly a student of the Bible! Some of the questions were difficult, but they didn't slow you down! You know the books, the characters, the events . . . Very impressive!

    Ultimate Bible Quiz
    Create MySpace Quizzes

I always feel weird when I get praised for something that seemed easy to me. Even if it's by an an online quiz. But this quiz seems really easy. I mean I didn't actually answer any of the questions that I would have had to have read the bible to know. e.g. what book comes after another book. And on most of the other questions the answer came more from general cultural knowledge (books, songs, movies, tv, etc. references to the stories) than form any reading I've done of the bible itself. e.g. I would guess that most people (that grew up in the US anyway) have heard about the miracle of the loaves and fishes. And even if they haven't they could probably guess that the multitude wasn't fed with pizza, hamburgers or fried chicken. And that's another way that the questions were often easy. But I'm probably spending too much effort on a silly quiz.

    Taken from [info]elfwreck's Journal.

This is a list of the 50 most significant science fiction/fantasy novels, 1953-2002, according to the Science Fiction Book Club. Bold the ones you've read, strike-out the ones you hated, italicize those you started but never finished and put an asterisk beside the ones you loved.

*1. The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
    2. The Foundation Trilogy, Isaac Asimov
    3. Dune, Frank Herbert

    14. Children of the Atom, Wilmar Shiras
    15. Cities in Flight, James Blish
*16. The Colour of Magic, Terry Pratchett (I'm going to generalize this to the whole Diskworld series of which I've read all but the first two, sometime I'll get to them.)
    17. Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison
    18. Deathbird Stories, Harlan Ellison
    19. The Demolished Man, Alfred Bester
    *20. Dhalgren, Samuel R. Delany
    21. Dragonflight, Anne McCaffrey (I have read one book in the Pern series but it didn't really catch me)
    22. Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card

    45. The Stars My Destination, Alfred Bester
    46. Starship Troopers, Robert A. Heinlein
    47. Stormbringer, Michael Moorcock
    48. The Sword of Shannara, Terry Brooks
    49. Timescape, Gregory Benford
    50. To Your Scattered Bodies Go, Philip Jose Farmer

So I'm a bit supriset to find that I've read 42 out of the 50. But I guess I've been reading SF for a long time. The starred one are favorites but I liked most of them. (The exception being the Thomas Covenant series. I Started off ok but but the time I finishe the first three volumes I'd had enough.
